Zahira College Batch of 2016 organized the B16 Lead the Sticks Hockey Carnival 2019 in the motive of developing the College Hockey. The main reason we took this initiative is because after the year 2019 the college did not have a strong team to play in the under 19 category. So we organized an inter class hockey tournament for Under 14 & 16. Our main motive was to produce a good hockey team for the college. And the reason to select this particular age category when they come up to the under 19 category the team representing the college will stand with a good standard of talent. Our College under 19 Team players of the year 2019 also put their effort to make this event a success.
The Guests that participated for the opening ceremony were our College Principal Mr. Trizviiy Marikkar along with Mr. Hameed Sadik, Dr. Irshad Jabir representing the HS foundation & the OBA President Mr. Naina Mohamed.
The Guest that participated for the closing ceremony were Hon. Shafeek Rajabdeen and Sponsors for the Event Mr. Mihan & Mr. Rushdhy
We had 4 teams participating in the under 14 category and Team Black won the championship & Team White emerged as the Runners Up, and also 8 teams took part in the Under 16 category and Team Titans won the Championship & Team Strikers won the Runner Up title. There were Friendly Exhibition Match between College Under 19 Team, Old Zahira Hockey Club & B16 Hockey Team in that Old Zahira Club won the Championship while College Under 19 team emerged the Runner-up title. In total due to this project we were able to gather around 50 students for the college who were interested in hockey in the category of under 16 whereas it was in Zero before the project was initiated.
Zahira College Hockey under 19 Team players played a major role in this tournament by mentoring & Training the players. At the end of the event we felicitated our Batch mate Mr. Aashiq Omar for representing Sri Lanka schools Hockey Nationals in the year of 2016 and also we felicitated four outgoing players of under 19 in the year of 2019 Master Adil Fazroon, Master Aman Azhar, Master Mohamed Ajmal & Master Mohamed Arkam for their dedicated service towards Zahira College Hockey.
In the upcoming years we as the Batch of 2016 is planning to initiate this project for the category of under 12 too.
